    About Mohamed Elmoslemany

Mohamed Elmoslemany (b. 1973) is a contemporary Egyptian artist from Beheira working in painting. A passion for drawing developed in Elmoslemany early in life and encouraged by his teachers to excel in his work, he has developed a versatile and confident practice. His contemporary paintings span both monochrome, ink on cotton paper and vibrant, colorful acrylic on cotton paper. The two modes are unified in a dedication to portraiture. Elmoslemany’s portraits capture a variety of qualities in his subjects, from realist studies of contemporary regional subjects to figures from Pharaonic Egypt. What unifies the artist’s approach to portraiture is his focus on women subjects, an embrace of their expressiveness as subjects and a particular influence of his family on his practice.

Elmoslemany studied at the Faculty of Arts Education at Helwan University where he specialized in design, graduating with a bachelor’s and master’s degrees (1997, 2003) followed by a PhD (2009). Elmoslemany currently teaches in the same faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Design and is an active member of numerous professional societies including the Syndicate of Fine Artists, the Art Education Alumni Association, and the Association of Professors of Painting and Works.

A longstanding figure in the Egyptian art scene, Elmoslemany has exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions with numerous galleries throughout Egypt, including Horus Gallery (Faculty of Art Education, 1998), Cairo Atelier (1999), Samra Gallery (Maadi, 1999), and Art Corner (Zamalek, 2010 and 2011). He has similarly participated widely in group projects with the Fine Arts Lovers Association (1998-2001), the Salon of Small Works of Art (2002-2004), the Luxor Painting Symposium (2004), Sharm El-Sheikh International Biennial Exhibition (2013), the General Exhibition of Fine Arts (2017), the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (2020) and the General Exhibition of Fine Arts (2021). He has exhibited his work internationally at Jeddah Art Atelier (Saudi Arabia, 2013), Ara Art Gallery (the United Arab Emirates, 2012) and the Art Zone Gallery (Halifax, Canada, 2015).

Elmoslemany is the recipient of numerous awards from the Jabakhinji Prize (1998), the Kamel Al-Ghandour competition (1998), the Giza Artists, Writers and Journalists Association Award for Academic Excellence (1998), the Kamal Obeid competition (2003).
