    About Hussien Yassin

In the never-ending journey of searching for the self and the cosmic essence, we find that human features are the most expressive and the closest to the psychological vocabulary in extrapolating the messages of the universe that we receive through browsing  the other’s status book. In spite of the stiffens of these expressions and their tranquility within the binary dimension of the artistic work, we find it takes us with it on a journey of visual interaction that makes us merge with the paintings to search for ourselves and what belongs to us inside it… Here, the interactive subtraction applies to the work  of the artist “ Hussien Yassin“ who was born in Cairo 1986. It is evident in his work that he is interested in “Man”, his facial expressions and body language in movement and posture. He also excelled at gradual growth and  phased development of the visual narrative, adapting it to the formulas of psychological and intellectual expression. The treatment of dramatic content in a clear blend between the realistic, imaginary and imagined on another level.

Portrait art is a window to the soul and mirror to what is going on in it and the human face carries meanings, thoughts and feelings, years of age are digging in the folds of this face and its formation with its special poetic features. And it is considered to be a live observation of the drama of our entire existence  relying on the role of the “other“ or the viewer, to find him struggling barely to determine the features penetrating the transparent white fuzziness that call on his imagination to find himself sharpening his memory and looking for a face that looks like the one he sees, so the artist participates in completing its features so that he may find it or participate in removing the blur from it.

His characters may seem like a question mark with features that pose questions and leave the viewer with the right to answer them , or it’s just coming out of an eternal dream, but it’s actually not what it looks like, it is a reality of pains and wishes for people woven by the course of life and their features have been overtaken by events.

Hussein Yassin’s portraits take you in both directions, he starts from reality to expression and imagination and then brings you back again after reviving the memory of the past and the moment of reality with an artistic aesthetic narrative that has its own specificity.

Academic experiences play a major role in crystallizing the artist’s style and refining it with many technical components to interact with the expressive emotional state, and the mechanism of translating it into his paintings, he graduated from faculty of specific education in  2007 and obtained a master’s degree and PHD in the philosophy of painting in 2020 then he worked as a lecturer for the same branch in the college.

The role of live coexistence comes to the main characters of his works where it was not enough for him to paint their faces but he painted it emotionally to create a language of communication that is paradoxical and different which distinguishes it from other experiences of other artists portraiture.

But each one of it has its own characteristics from the works of the artist himself, with changes in artistic stages throughout his creative and humanistic experience.

His vision comes as a mystical melt of artistic aesthetics inspired by the pure spirit of art that belongs to humanity. Since modern art has given its practitioners the legitimacy of asceticism in conveying reality  ,so  the depth of the artist’s psychological qualities has emerged , so his works were distinguished by a color group that differ ascending in frequency of its paths .

This difference comes from the source of practicing , experience and acts of the mind and not from an artistic coincidence. In his works, he combined the characteristic of formative ambiguity and unframed color. Fluctuating between contradictions between stillness and motion, between reason and conscience comes the role of receiving and contemplation to monitor the contradiction that is the main component of the human self, maintaining the balance of those proportions of the composition and color , as much as we find the stability and balance of floral ornament and their appearance which is well defined we might find the human, whose parts and fragments disappear and hiding behind the movement of color in the direction of gravity in a random and liner pattern specifying  for himself the fixed point using some golden units in a non-vulgar professionalism.

His works blend both a romantic surreal in their distance from reality, and the influence on the light reflection on the first impression of people and elements and a bit of abstraction in rebellion against the stated goals of the artistic work, and this is evident through the artist’s visual culture and unique style.

He participated in several fine arts events in Egypt and a number of group exhibitions including the Youth Salon 2010-2011-2018-2019, the Small Works Salon 2009, the White and Black Salon 2015-2017 at Al-Jazeera Center and other local galleries. He also participated in the International painting Symposium in Luxor in 2018 and has a number of acquisitions for some individuals and  the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo.
