There is a philosophical approach that sees art as an aesthetic value, while there is another one that sees it as a social message. Therefore, opinions differed on the form and content, but Hanafy Mahmoud’s artworks gather them together. He was born on the 14th of August, 1970 in El-Wadi El-Gedid. He graduated from the faculty of Art Education in 1993 and got a master’s degree in painting in 2002.
He worked in academic positions, as he was a researcher and a professor in the faculty of Art Education and the American University in Cairo. He held more than 10 private exhibitions. The first one was in the faculty of Art Education’s showroom, then he kept on holding exhibitions till he held two exhibitions called Illusion 1 and Illusion 2 in 2016. In these two exhibitions, he expressed the space between imagination and symbol in an artistic experience that was like a symphony, as he transferred his self and feelings to a fine artwork taking down shorthand a lot of traditional fine details which makes the hero of the artwork is the human with his essence and what they reveal in their visual contact with the recipient while keeping the aesthetic form and aiming to deep human values.
His painting style was outstanding and reflected his vision of intellectual and existential issues. In all of the fine artists’ paintings, you can recognize his from a long distance. He took part in many group national and international exhibitions. In Egypt, He participated in many galleries starting from the Youth Salon in 1993 with its consecutive round, then the Association of Fine Arts Lovers’ Al-Tala’e Exhibition since 1994, and more than one round of the Small Artworks Salon; the first round was the 4th salon in 2000.
