About Fares Ahmed

Fares Ahmed was born on the 26th of July, 1959 in the Al-Helmiya neighborhood which is one of the inveterate districts. It is full of Fatimid architecture which inspired Ahmed in his artworks starting from painting Cairo’s ancient scenes with its buildings, Mashrabiyas, the ancient giant gates, colorful glass windows, people, and vibes.
He did free studies in the faculty of Fine Arts in 1980, then studied art appreciation in the Academy of Arts to flourish his talent with the academic study.
He is a member of Egypt’s Fine Arts Syndicate, Al-Ghoury Artists Association, the National Society of Fine Arts, the Egyptian Heritage Rescue Foundation, and Cairo’s Atelier for Artists and Writers.
He worked in so many positions in the Ministry of Culture and the fine arts sector, such as the director of the international exhibitions department, the acting director-general of the national museums since February 2015, and a member of the Creative Fine Arts Festival’s jury in 2007.

He held 15 individual exhibitions; the first one was in Masr Al-Jadidah’s Culture Palace in 1982. Then he held other exhibitions, such as Dream Time in 2004 and The Renaissance of Egypt in 2015. He also held a preparatory exhibition including most of his artistic phases in Cairo Opera House in 2018.

Moreover, he has taken part in many national group exhibitions since 1980, including the salons of the National Society since 1984, the African Art Gallery in 1993, the 1st Small Artworks Salon 1997 to the 7th one in 2004, the National Fine Arts Gallery from the 21st round in 1990 to the 39th one in 2017, the Silver Jubilee for October’s Victory in 1998, Sinai: Peace and Development, Black – White Gallery for painting in all of its rounds, Art for Every Family Gallery, the Suez Canal between the Past and the Future in 2016 and 2019, and Variations Gallery in 2021.
The uniqueness and Egyptian identity of his artworks speared through the participation in international exhibitions, such as the International Ceramic Biennale, Small Printing Biennale in Japan in 1999, Woman and Peace in France in 2000, Majdanek Triennial in Poland in 2000, the International Olympic Contest Gallery in Switzerland in 2001, the 14th Fuheis Gallery in Jordan 2004, Egyptian Art Gallery in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2004 and Finland in 2005, and the Photography Gallery in China.

He got the sabbatical scholarship from the Ministry of Culture for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. He also won many national awards, such as the 2nd prize in painting in the Fine Arts contest in Helwan University in 1983, the 1st prize in painting in From October’s Creation in 1998, and the prize of the fine arts sector of the 6th Small Artworks Salon in 2003. On the international level, he won the Computer Graphics contest in the Yokohama Museum in Japan in 2003.
Many of his holdings are with individuals in Egypt, KSA, and the USA. Many others are in several museums, like the Contemporary Egyptian Art Museum, the Armed Forces Museum, the Egyptian Olympic Committee, and Majdanek Museum in Poland.
