    About Ehab Elasyouty

    Ehab Elasyouty (b. 1965) is an Egyptian artist working in the field of contemporary sculpture. Born in Asyut and practising since the mid-1980s, he is a senior artist in his field. Elasyouty studied in the Faculty of Fine Art at Minya University, graduating with a doctorate. Under the tutelage of senior artist Farouk Ibrahim and working in polyester, Elasyouty developed a sculptural practice that embraces abstraction and expressionism. Dominating his work is the human form, abstracted into geometric and biomorphic forms. His figures are typically feminine and symbolic of Egypt herself with qualities of tenderness and strength.

    Elasyouty is currently Professor of Sculpture in the Faculty of Fine Art at Minya University. He holds professional affiliations with Helwan University, is a certified lecturer at the General Authority for Cultural Palaces and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Marsam Foundation for Artistic Creativity. He is a member of the Syndicate of Fine Artists, the Association of Fine Arts Alumni, the Cairo Atelier, the Writers and Artists Group, and the Fustat Association for Egyptian Pottery and Ceramics Manufacturers.

    A prolific figure in the Egyptian art world, Elasyouty has participated in over one hundred exhibitions, symposia and workshops since his emergence in the late 1980s. Highlights include repeat visits to the Salon of Small Pieces (1997, 1998, 2000), the Palace of Culture of Asyut and Sohag (1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1996, 1998), the Port Said Biennale (2003, 2005), and the workshops of the Ostraka Foundation (2014, 2015). Other venues include Cairo Atelier (2003), the Rihani Culture Palace (2005), the Egyptian Revolution Exhibition (Minya, 2005), the International Photography Symposium at Portrait Hall (Cairo, 2007), the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (2008), Minya University’s Faculty of Fine Arts (2017, 2018), the Ahmed Shawky Museum (2017), the Palma Saqqara Workshop December (2017), the Ehab El Assiouty Symposium (Cairo, 2018), the International Scientific Conference on African Arts at the Academy of Arts (online, 2021), the Nile Club (2021), and Majitsi Art Foundation (2021).

    Elasyouty has exhibited beyond Egypt with an accomplished international profile, particularly in Europe. Notable among his projects abroad is his participation in numerous symposia, workshops and exhibitions in Romania, Hungary and Italy. Other projects abroad include exhibitions in Azerbaijan and Sudan.

    Elasyouty’s work is collected extensively in Egypt and overseas. Alongside private collectors in Egypt, Romania and Hungary, notable intuitional collectors of his work include the Alexandria Library, the National Theatre, Kahilah Hall, the Museum of Modern Art (Cairo), the Museum of Fine Arts (University of Minya), the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the Lithica Institute for Medal and Coinage (Rome), the Egyptian Cultural Office (Rome) and the Gallery Reminik Sandor (Romania). His large-scale sculpture is visible throughout Egypt, displayed publicly in Minya, Aswan, Asyut and Cairo.
