    About Altaher Salah Aldin

“Altaher Salah Aldin, animator and painter, manages to modernize traditional painting techniques with the language of animation. His rising career is witness to his great talent”.

Altaher Salah Aldin (b.1982) is an emerging visual artist from Cairo, Egypt, who combines his experience as an animator and painting. His work is characterized by colorful portraits and scenes with a lot of movement. However, the artist’s style is very versatile, and because of his constant experimentation, his artistic practice is not easily pigeonholed.

Since his childhood, Aldin’s relationship with art was very close, as his parents were professors at the Faculty of Arts. His first approach was through classical music, essentially Mozart and Bach. From the age of 16, the artist began to make illustrations for the covers of Teenstuff and Kelmetna magazines and some interior artwork. Since then, his talent has not gone unnoticed and he has won awards.

But his artistic path was enriched after graduating in 2003 as an animator at the film high school. Aldin rediscovered his love for drawing and painting and began producing new pictorial works in 2014. The artist “modernized” an art considered traditional by using different materials and methods.

One of the most distinctive features of his work is the inclusion of elements typical of kinematics, combined with his audiovisual profession. Aldin in his paintings aims to capture the action, or rather many actions, in a single shot. So many things usually happen in a single scene, where the space and temporality of several specific moments coexist; creating a visual tension that hypnotizes everyone who sees it.

Aldin’s art is born from his love for painting itself, for the beauty of the idea of painting. In this sense, his works are not primarily based on their content, but on the ingenuity of the act of artistic expression. Honesty in his activity and with his viewers is the basis of his art.

Aldin had his first group exhibition, of several, in 2018 in Egypt. He has also directed two independent short films that participated in the Ismailia Short Film Festival and Claremont Festival. Since his graduation in animation, he has worked in the field of motion graphics and post-production in TV channels. Currently, the artist works as a production designer for the CBC Network.
