Welcome to Nebet Gallery

It is often repeatedly mentioned both within and beyond the realm of the visual art scene that the essence of art is that it sheds light onto our souls, that the arts are not just another format of artistic communication or simply the “expression of human creative skill and imagination” as defined by the Oxford dictionary. On the contrary, we strongly argue that the aforementioned dogmas are mere cliches, and we are absolutely convinced that the visual arts truly represent the concealed and refined aspects of human knowledge. Art allows us to interpret the world and negotiate the vocabulary of our lives from a wholly different point-of-view. In a sense, ART is a major tool for humanity to contemplate its very own existence.

Cave art and stone manipulation were the first routes of communication in which the First man expressed himself and his needs before any written or spoken language ever existed. Arguably, these scribbles were the ideological medium through which cave men and women attempted to reach out to the Creator of the universe, broadcasting their existential and metaphysical queries in a visual format.

With the development of agriculture and the demise of the hunter-gatherer society, early civilizations evolved, the most prominent of which was the Old Egyptian civilization. Nebet or Nebet-Het, the female deity, sister of Isis and companion of Set was a prominent member of the Egyptian pantheon of gods. Its cult has evolved, and it symbolically invoked several different connotations from the Old Kingdom until the 30th dynasty. One interpretation in Egyptian mythology is that She is the goddess of justice, before whom people stand equal. She is an absolutely just Goddess, and mortals are satisfied with Her authority and good judgement. The interpretation of art is similar. When we gaze at an artwork we stand transformed, dazzled in front of Art’s gifts to humanity. Nevertheless, contrary to the judicial system epically represented by the Goddess Nebet, where the grounds for a judgement are laid out clearly in front of the defendant, the interpretation of an artist’s masterpiece from the recipient end may be anathema to the actual aims of the artist.

This is the essence of the Gestalt psychological principle which is a central conviction of Nebetgallery.com, to understand how the viewer emotionally and psychologically interprets a piece of art, because we strongly believe that in the VISUAL ARTS, the whole (artist’s primary intention + the viewer’s secondary interpretation) represent far more than the sum of its parts. As we shall see later, this is why Nebet focuses on the creative genius of the artist and not simply on the sale of art.
Inspired by the spirit and authority of art, believing that it is the only constant that unites the peoples of the earth on an aesthetic and cognitive goal that is based on highlighting the human identity as well as societal values through the personal experiences of artists over time, Nebet Gallery, with its firm conviction and awareness of the role of private institutions in supporting the ART world and its principal creative element, the ARTIST, as well as firmly believing in Egypt’s artistic leadership and keeping abreast of the mechanisms of digital and technological development, Nebet has developed a system that aims mainly to export a clear picture of modern and contemporary Egyptian art through our unusual artist-geared tactic of approaching, and delving deep into the artists themselves, highlighting pivotal points in their career and alluding to the milestones which shape shifted their career. This is our primary aim: to give credit to those who provide us with absolute joy, The ARTISTS. In a sense, NebetGallery.com is contradicting its own doctrine. We hope that by deeply probing the artists’ psyche we at nebetgallery.com may in fact help the viewer to correctly interpret the artistic genius behind a visual art piece. Our secondary aim is economic.

Nebetgallery.com is distinguished by the honesty of displaying the works of art of established stars in the contemporary art scene, as well as providing support and guidance to emerging artists and disseminating an image worthy of the status of Egyptian art. All members of the Nebet team cherish these particular values. We are enthusiastic that it will strengthen the Egyptian art movement by commissioning a new milestone in its towering structure.

We sincerely hope that few years down the line, Nebetgallery.com will be looked at as the museum of contemporary Egyptian/Arab Art, a mecca for art lovers who are curious about the wonders of contemporary Egyptian art. We are not here just to set up shop and sell sculptures and paintings, we are here to show the whole world the creative genius of the Egyptian artists.
